2. Garhwali Mess

This is an amazing place. This British Era building was built in 1888 that has been preserved and maintained by the state government and it is a popular tourist attraction in Lansdowne. The Century Old Heritage Mess was built during the British Era and is now being maintained by the Cantonment Board, at about a 15-minute walk from the main market, the Mess stands testament to the times gone by. The building is now a museum that is home to a wonderful collection of silverware, books, and animal trophies.

Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple is an ancient temple situated in Lansdowne. It is named after sage Kalun who did his penance here and It is at a distance of 1.5 km from Lansdowne Market. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is maintained by the Indian Army.

About Lansdowne

Lansdowne was developed by the British for catering for the Recruits Training center of the Garhwal Rifles. Lansdowne was a major place of the activities of freedom fighters from British Garhwal during British period. On 5 November 1887, the first battalion of Garhwal Rifles migrated from Almora to Lansdowne. Lansdowne was the only city after Almora in the late 1870s.
